You Don’t Have to Fix Everything You Feel

When something uncomfortable comes up, most of us immediately want to do something about it.
We want to understand it, change it, make it go away, figure out where it came from, or find the tool that will help us feel better.
Sometimes that’s useful.
But sometimes the constant effort to fix what we’re feeling becomes another way of not actually feeling it.
A tightness in your chest doesn’t always need an explanation.
A wave of sadness doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong.
Feeling irritated, tired, unsettled, or emotional doesn’t automatically mean you need to turn it into a project.
Sometimes your body simply needs enough space to have the experience it’s already having.
What happens when you stop trying to change it?
Try noticing what you’re feeling without immediately asking why.
Where do you feel it in your body?
Is there pressure, warmth, heaviness, movement, tension, openness?
Can you notice it without deciding whether it’s good or bad?
You don’t have to force yourself to stay with something that feels overwhelming. This isn’t about pushing deeper or making yourself uncomfortable.
It’s simply an invitation to notice whether your first response is always to fix.
There can be a surprising amount of relief in realizing:
I can feel something without immediately needing to do something about it.
Sometimes awareness itself creates movement.
Sometimes the feeling changes.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
Either way, you’ve given yourself an opportunity to be with your experience rather than automatically fighting against it.
Try this
The next time you notice something uncomfortable, give yourself 30 seconds before reaching for a solution.
Notice your body.
Take a breath.
Let yourself be curious.
And ask:
What happens if I don’t try to change this right now?
You may discover that not everything you feel is asking to be fixed.
Sometimes it’s simply asking to be felt.

I needed to read this today. Thank you, Kelly for this beautiful message. I never thought to ask what I am feeling before why. I will carry this with me 🥰
